Wednesday's Wisdom ... Why Organize?

Have you ever thought about the mechanics of the Civil Rights Movement, the Obama Campaign and yes even the methods of those people who party and drink Boston tea? These movements are able to mobilize intentions into strategic action, creating an awareness for change. When contemplating these movements; we must think strategy, leadership development, and the deepening of relationships - all based on synergy, time and patience for an determined outcome.

Community Organizing is just this, a systematic approach for resolving and/or initiating action on social, community, and/or political change.

Examples...SCLC advocating for civil rights which developed into the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the "Yes We Can" campaign for President Obama and Occupy Wall Street for social justice. Three unique movements all beginning with grassroots mobilizing. Each campaign relies on the relationships of people, organizations and institutions for resources and most of all - their common self interest.

We know many individuals who fight for community justice, but how many of us have aligned ourselves with organized networks of shared power.

"We need Leadership Development 101"

Leadership development in organizing is vitally needed among most community leaders. Though there are a few experienced teachers; but time may not permit them in sharing the skill for organizing, maybe due to a lack of resources and/or manpower. Exactly the reason why relationships are needed, organizational infrastructures must be established within causes. Without a resourceful network of human capital, good people are slowly burning out!

Those who have financial responsibilities or vote, it's basically an obligation to participate and not just voice your opinion (complain). A new paradigm of thinking have arose in America, it embraces new outlooks for solidarity among people's commonalities and interests. We can advance ourselves by seeking the education offered through organizing for an enhanced vision, personal development and community power.

Your community's interest will not be recognized....

Situation: Imagine having the same problems with the local school district as your neighbors. Your neighbor is relaying to you everything about the research meetings taking place next door; subsequently trying to encourage you on attending to share your story. Then finally your neighbors collectively win a victory; but the resolution does not include your interest. Your community's interests will not be recognized if you're not participating actively and it would seem your concerns were overlooked, but we are not present at the table.
Simply changing non-participation behavior, could make a world of difference. Many people participate actively making consistent attempts in curing their community's self helplessness. Joining the bigger action through an organized infrastructure who carry your concerns, stories and community interests - is we why must organize.

Do they not travel through the land, so that their hearts (and mind) may thus learn wisdom and their ears may thus learn to hear? Truly it is not their eyes that are blind, but their hearts which are in their breasts.
