Every Thursday with Turf Feinz

"Every Thursday" will feature people of creativity and/or ideas of leadership throughout their work.

When Urban Youth become frustrated with everyday life, their innate creativity begin and another trend or culture is born; meet Turf Feinz of Oakland, California. For the past few years, the Oakland streets have been entertained with "turf dancing." It's a freestyle,  abstract movements expressing classical dance, gymnastics and whole lot of heart.

This blog-ver-sa-tion produced by YaK Films went viral almost 2 years ago, its a document of quality indie entertainment. The visual effects on their dancing makes it even more magical, riding on an original track. Turf Feinz is one of many Oakland crews, expressing themselves through art rather than violence.

Watch as this quad dance in the rain, in memory of someone who lost their life the night before. I noticed this doc about two years on my neighbor's page and its recorded motivation still provides amazement and wonder "if i could dance". Filmed with skillful science capturing the essence of aspiring emotional intelligence and its delivery.

Major Respect and Love for urban culture, so diverse and around the world. Have a good day and next week it may be you, Every Thursday with Turf Feinz on Create-A-Voice.

  2. Ok, uh, this brought tears to my eyes. Some people might just view this as an "urban dance sequence" but as you mentioned, it's so much more than that. The youth of today are being backed into a corner by a society that doesn't care about their needs, whether it be physical, mental, or spiritual. Thank God, these young men have found a way to express themselves through art, instead of violence. May Allah protect and guide our youth in this crazy world!

And besides that, it was just breathtaking, the way they moved their bodies. Better than any ballet i have ever seen... expression through dance, art, and song is in the African blood.
